Friday...

Arrive on a Friday afternoon / evening. Warm bath & dress warm (Drakensberg nights - cold enough to make your face tingle – good for photos). Good bar, good music (bring your own if you like), roaring log fires.

An outstanding spread of Spanish tapas (it’s “finger food” – a diversity like you’ve never seen – and we do it this way because you can’t be sure that everyone will be here at a particular time for a sit down meal).

Then last rounds, a nightcap and a cozy bed. Fit the speeches in anywhere you like and set the bar tab at whatever number you’re comfortable with. The bar stays open as late as you like but we find that the mountain air starts getting to people…

Saturday...

Big farmhouse breakfast served between 7:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. Then what?

Well, there is a huge diversity of things to do. Some members of your party might fancy a walk at Giant’s Castle. Some might like to try their hand at fly-fishing. Or play a round of golf. Or go horse riding. Or do a bit of shopping on the Meander. Or go for a pamper session at a health hydro. Or whatever.

It’s about finding, and sharing, common interests. And enjoying each other’s company in convivial and beautifully scenic surroundings. With the emphasis on relationship building rather than the razzmatazz of a big, expensive production that often creates a lot of angst.

Then back at about 3 p.m. to get dressed for the wedding at 4 p.m. (The bride and groom need to spend a few minutes with your Marriage Officer – just to be sure of what you want and the words you’re going to use. Bring your I.D. book / Passport).

Wedding...

The wedding ceremony takes place in an old chapel just four kilometres further along the road to Giant’s Castle. (Our guest house was originally built for the Headmaster of a small private school in 1904. The old school chapel, with its deep rural setting, stone construction, parquet floor and stained glass windows is a little gem – but no confetti - More...)

Back to Halls Country House for the reception: champagne, speeches and (would you believe it)…a little bit of drinking.

Your wedding banquet will be served at 7 p.m. A 3-course set menu (that we’ll agree in advance) and a cheese board (local Drakensberg / Midlands Meander produce). Think farmhouse - hearty & tasty with plenty of sauce to dunk your homemade bread in.

Cut the cake in the bar, throw the garter and just do what comes naturally.

Other Things!

Do please remember ladies, this is a farmhouse in the boondocks. Please don’t ask us for nail artists, hairdressers or bagpipers. Flowers and a cake we can do.

If it’s a weekend wedding R25 000 is the minimum (we’re often asked if the wedding party is only 6 people does the price reduce – and the answer is no, guests here for a quiet weekend and a wedding party don’t work together). If it’s midweek we can be flexible.

Payment

Some of these things you have to book (and pay for) in advance – quite a long way in advance (like the Wedding Chapel, the Marriage Officer, the cake-maker – takes weeks to make a proper country wedding cake apparently) - so there’s a non-refundable deposit of R7 500. The balance is payable 1 month in advance of the wedding date. Bar and sundries are paid for on departure.

AND...

You’ve eaten well, you’ve had quite a farmhouse party and you’ve spent some quality time with 18 of the people who are probably going to be important to you throughout your married life.
AND YOU'RE MARRIED.

We're also an ideal venue for Gay Weddings
